Now, you get to relive it with the exact thought of 49ers TE Dwight Clark, the one who reeled in the Joe Montana throw for a touchdown. Dwight writes. The drive started at own 11 yard line with 4:54 on the clock in the 1982 NFC Championship Game at Candlestick Park. The winner goes to the Super Bowl, and with 89 yards to go against America's Team, it seemed impossible. But we marched down the field and with 58 seconds left in the game, we were faced with 3rd and 3 at the Dallas 6 yard line. Bill Walsh called the play, Red left slot - sprint right option. Freddie Solomon was the flanker and I was the split end. We lined up on the right in a slot formation. Freddie's route called for a quick out and my job was to run a hook along the back of the end zone. If Joe looked at me, I was to slide along the back of the end line.....Continued on photo.
